Defining Customer Expectations Since 1996

Bizrate Insights has grown with ecommerce from the start-shaping customer expectations, not just responding to them. As online shopping matured, we helped businesses define what great customer experiences look like. What began as a feedback and trust-building tool became a foundation for smarter, faster decisions across the entire ecommerce journey.

Company Founded

Farhad Mohit and Henry Asseily created Binary Compass, later known as Bizrate.com, as a graduate school project during their time at Wharton.

Bizrate.com was Born

As part of turning their project into a business, Binary Compass became Bizrate.com as a place where consumers could find reviews of online businesses.

Growth of Customer Feedback Surveys

Bizrate partnered with Consumer Reports to provide ratings in both the print and online editions of the Consumer Reports.

Bizrate Becomes Shopzilla

Bizrate.com rebranded as Shopzilla.com, and its research arm became known as Bizrate Insights. Both sites included Bizrate Insights ratings as part of their product search results and continue to exist today (though without ratings).

Acquired by E.W. Scripps

Shopzilla is acquired by E.W. Scripps which owns several newspapers and TV stations (Food Network, HGTV, etc.).

Google’s First Seller Ratings Parter

Bizrate Insights becomes Google’s first Seller Ratings partner, supplying them with a direct feed of ratings and reviews to powering their Seller Ratings platform.

Bizrate Insights Spins Off as a Separate Entity

The Bizrate Insights division is separated from Shopzilla, becoming a standalone brand dedicated to customer feedback and analytics.

Acquired by Connexity

Connexity, Inc. acquires Bizrate Insights as part of its expansion into marketing services and consumer insights.

Intro of Advanced Customer Experience Analytics

Bizrate Insights enhances its offerings with new tools for measuring Net Promoter Score (NPS), customer satisfaction, and shopping behavior.

Acquired by Time Inc.’s Synapse Group

Time Inc. acquired Bizrate Insights from Connexity. Bizrate Insights was integrated into Time Inc. under the Synapse Group leadership team.

Acquired by Meredith Corporation

Meredith Corporation acquired Time Inc., bringing Bizrate Insights under its portfolio.

Meredith Merged with DotDash to Become DotDashMeredith

Dotdash acquired Meredith Corporation, forming Dotdash Meredith, with Bizrate Insights as part of its offerings.

Continued Innovation in Customer Feedback & E-commerce Analytics

Bizrate Insights refines its suite of customer feedback tools, expanding into omnichannel surveys, UX research, and AI-driven insights for retailers and brands.
